A well-made instrument often has untapped potential. Through careful analysis of the bridge geometry, soundpost position, string choice and the balance of forces within the instrument, Pieter can reveal a fuller, more resonant sound.
This is a collaborative process: Pieter listens closely to the musician's description of what is missing — more depth, more clarity, more projection — and works systematically toward that goal. The musician's feedback is central to the process.
What is addressed:
- Bridge fitting and geometry — height, curvature, foot adjustment
- Soundpost positioning — location, tension and fit quality
- String selection — tailored to the instrument and playing style
- Force balance analysis — bow contact point and string afterlength
- Nut adjustment — string height and groove profile
- Fingerboard check — scoop and surface condition

The bow is the voice of the instrument. A well-maintained bow responds with precision, has excellent grip and releases cleanly. Pieter uses only the finest materials for all bow maintenance work.
For violin, viola and cello bows. All work is carried out with the same meticulous attention to quality as the making of a new instrument.
